When I came home from work today I looked into Strubbel's cage, picked him up and off we went to the vet again. He hasn't been drinking for a week now, not eating properly and his droppings are few, small and sticky. I really didn't want another emergency visit to the clinic during the weekend. This time the doc looked down his throat which was quite a procedure. He had to use two contraptions / thingies to keep his mouth open before he could poke around in it. The result: Strubbel's throat is swollen inside. He seems to have some kind of infection (which would explain why he doesn't eat his scratchy hay). So he got a shot of antibiotics and I have to give him antibiotics daily (orally!) and something to build up his stomach fauna and immune system. The doc said sometimes the antibiotics work really fast, always depending what the cause is and whether everything else (blood sugar, kidneys etc.) are okay. I really hope so. While I waited to be called up I was close to tears again. I had such a bad feeling that this won't end well. But now we're working more on the cause and not only on the symptoms. So I'm starting to hope again.
Damn this little bugger! Stop making me worry!
