Please stop me!!!!
Dec. 29th, 2007 12:19 amWould someone please tell me to stop?! I don't know what to do anymore! I just keep doing one thing and I don't know how to stop and I don't get anything else done!
It's worse than the Sims
For some stupid reason I gave translating a try. I picked an HP fanfic I liked and started to work on it. That was yesterday before noon. Now I've about 30 pages of German translations and I still feel the urge to keep going! I have no idea why I'm doing this. And to think that these are my only few days off for the next several months!
What fascinates me so much?
I get to know the story very intimately. I've never before read anything so consciously paying attention to every word. And because I have to linger over every word the content also becomes more immediate. I feel more intensively what's happening. I'd have thought that fighting to get the exact wording would be distracting, but it isn't!
Seeing how much time it takes me to make any progress I get a healthy respect for the writer. How long must it have taken her to come up with everything and hammer it into form! Wow! (And why did I have to choose an epic with 55 long chapters and still going on???)
There's also a feeling of accomplishment. That's probably the best I can get as I'm not creative. I can't really write and everything I draw looks like stick figures.
I also have to go back to my sources, i.e. to the German edition of Harry Potter. I read the novels and fanfiction in English. Now I have to look up translations to conform with the German HP standard. A rediscovery. Oh, and I found this cool page, a translating project for the novels and fanfiction. They even made a dictionary for HP terms with a comparison of the official German translation and their alternatives. I've seen some examples of theirs that are so much better than the official translation. Maybe, just maybe I'll join their forum. I haven't yet figured out if they accept slash. And then there's the worry about exposing my first attempts to their experience. Aargh!
Okay, that's it. Something's niggling in my mind. Can't resist. Have to translate more!

The Best Bleach Boyfriend for You Your Result: Hitsugaya Toshiro Surprise! You are attracted to short men with vivid green eyes. This particular one, however, is much older than he appears -- and a genius to boot. His innate deductive reasoning and his unwavering dedication to his work may not make him the best candidate for warming your cold nights at first glance, but in reality he's a devoted friend and lover who will kill anyone who even attempts to hurt a strand of hair on your head. The only drawback of a relationship with this guy is that strangers on the street think you're a pedophile. | |

Hell, *I'd* think I'm a pedophile!
The weird think is I like Hitsugaya. I think it's the deep voice. And he can be really funny, going off like that when someone treats him like a kid. I only wish he would get to actually win a fight sometime!
Bleach is a series I check up on regularly. But I liked the earlier episodes better. I'm in for the action btw, less for the boys. Somehow the series lacks the really intriguing characters that Naruto, for example, has.
Potter Puppet Pals
Sep. 26th, 2007 02:54 pmI suspect I'm the last to find this. But anyway, I stumbled across it, my mind boggled, I spilled my tea...
I just had to add it to my journal
Potter Puppet Pals in "Potions Class"
And here another one, so funny
Potter Puppet Pals in "Bothering Snape"
There's a lot more on YouTube. I spend the last hour going through them. Total Madness!
