Me = Genius

Okay, it might be a bit of an exaggeration. But still. My parents switched their phone / internet provider last week. They now have broadband and VoIP. Since my dad is still in rehab my mom was pretty helpless without him around. Last monday I called dad just to hear how he's doing. He informed me (that's right, there was no asking about it) that I would come to my parents' place Wednesday after work, switch the phones and my mom would drive me to work the next morning. (it's only 2 hours by train from where I work to my parents' place). I was just a little miffed about his high-handedness. Okay I was seething, but I managed to bite my tongue. After he was in rehab I knew I could talk to mom and find a more convenient time. So I visited her today. My dad had left quite detailed instructions on which wires to cut and which to reconnect and where to plug them. To be honest I was quite suspicious about it all. Normally today everything is plug'n'play and dummy-proof. My mom had already started (cutting, reconnecting), but didn't know where to plag the LAN cable into the laptop! (she's really not computer savvy). So I looked at the instructions that came with the package, the instructions my dad had left and the mess before me. Then I decided to go with the official instructions and lo and behold! my dad's instructions were rubbish. He wanted us to splice the phone directly into the splitter. But now they have VoIP so it's only logical to connect to phone to the modem. As shown in the instruction sheet (with illustrations). It was just plug it in and go. I did so and everything was fine. I couldn't help but brag to our neighbours :grin: When dad called (he wanted to know if it had worked) I had to rub his nose in it. But only slightly, I didn't want to annoy my mom. :snigger: I'm just happy that it did work. I'd be so pissed now if I'd had spent half the day on the train for nothing.
